Description:
Terrapin Lodge is located in remote Carate, on the Pacific side of the Osa Peninsula.  The facility is located on 12 hectares of tropical rain forest and manicured gardens.  We are located a few minutes' walk from the raging Pacific Ocean and bound Pejeperrito Lagoon.  Terrapin Lodge includes foothills rising up from the coastal plane to the forested mountains that are contiguous with Corcovado National Park, itself only one hour away by foot.

There is a profusion of wildlife that can be seen from the Terrapin Lodge grounds, and there is a private reserve in the mountains behind the property that can be explored by hiking up the stream.  There is basically no difference between this primary rain forest and the nearby Park, which itself is the Crown Jewel of the Costa Rican National Park system.

Lodging at Terrapin includes use of facility kayaks on the nearby lagoon.  We can help you to secure personalized guiding services for trips into the park or for a variety of tours in the Carate area.  There are also many self-guiding options, including horseback riding, waterfall tours, lagoon kayaking, beach, river exploration, and of course hiking through the forest.

The rain forest is home to a vast array of exotic wildlife including the scarlet macaw, toucan, four types of monkeys, two types of sloth, peccaries, anteaters, five varieties of large cats, and a variety of other bird, reptile, mammal, and insect species sure to delight photographers, birders, naturalists, and wildlife enthusiasts.

When you are ready to cool off, beautiful Carate Beach and Playa Madrigal await. Beach lovers can swim, surf the famous break, kayak, whale watch, and visit our Green Sea Turtle Hatchery. Horseback rides on the beach allow you to ride under the trees and view the wildlife overhead in the canopy.

Later, you can sleep secure in your screened cabin as the tropical breeze carries in the night songs of the rainforest and recharge for a new day of adventure travel.

We offer five picturesque cabins in the heart of the rainforest - three with ocean views - and a centrally located lodge and bar for your dining and drinking pleasure
