Ecotourism Vacation

Location

Terrapin Lodge is located on the Osa Peninsula on the pacific Coast Of Costa Rica, 230 miles southwest of San Jose. The Lodge sits at the mouth of the Corcovado National Park.

Getting There

Visitors fly into San Jose Airport and then get a Nature Air flight from Pavas Airport to the town of Puerto Jimenez. Flights vary. Give yourself plenty of time to get through customs and allow about 45 minutes for travel from San Jose Airport to Pavas Airport.

Taxi

We will arrange for a taxi to pick you up and bring you to Terrapin Lodge. The taxi drive is approximately 1.5 hours over rugged terrain. The charge for taxi pick-up is about $65 US. Ask about sharing a ride.

Currency

US dollars are almost always accepted. Other currencies can be changed in Peurto Jimenez. Terrapin Lodge accepts travellers checks.

Accommodations

Terrapin Lodge has its own centrally located cabana where we serve three meals a day (all included in the price). Our cabana also has a full bar and live music when the Bruce and the band are visiting!

There are five private cabins, two of which have ocean views. Each cabin has its own bathroom to ensure privacy and convenience. Despite our remote location, the cabana and the rooms all have electricity - generated on site.

We are proud to be able to say that Terrapin Lodge is now powered by a micro-hydroelectric system. There are also solar panels as a back-up power source. Both are completely renewable energy sources which cause no harm to the environment. Please feel free to ask if you would like a tour of the system.

What To Bring

Terrapin Lodge is in a tropical rain forest - so you should think warm and humid when packing. Daytime temps are usually within a few degrees of 87°f (31°c) and during the rainy season (June to October) there is often an afternoon shower. Pack changes of shorts and light clothing, hiking boots, sandals, a hat, plenty of spare socks and undies, and a swimsuit. Pack moisture proof.

Remember that Terrapin Lodge is in a remote setting. You must bring the things you will need or want. A partial list of other important items includes, insect repellant, sunblock, a good flashlight (with a spare bulb and batteries), binoculars, camera (and extras), camping knife, sunglasses, hankies, any medications you might need, skin ointment, chewing gum, energy bars, and as 'The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy' says... a towel and a toothbrush!
